What your gums actually do<\/h2>\n

Your gums (gingiva) form a protective seal around the neck of each tooth. That seal keeps bacteria away from the deeper tissues and the bone that anchors your teeth. Healthy gums fit snugly, do not bleed when you brush and keep an even, consistent colour.<\/p>\n

Researchers are still working out how much of this is cause and effect, but the link with diabetes is well established and works in both directions.
